Bomdong Bibimbap (봄동 비빔밥)

a rice dish just for the spring

This dish was actually popular years ago yet made a resurgence in popularity. Bomdong is a delicious spring cabbage that’s quite hard to find. So I substituted it with young napa cabbage.

This is not an exact recipe as it’s up to your preference and taste buds. Adjust the ingredients as you wish!

Ingredients

1 bomdong cabbage or 3 lettuce/cabbage hearts
2-3 spoons gochugaru, Korean chili flakes
2 spoons soy sauce
2 spoons fish sauce
2 spoons sesame oil
1-2 spoons rice wine vinegar
1 spoon sugar
1-2 spoons maesil, Korean green plum extract
1 garlic clove, minced
Sesame seeds
Gochujang
Cooked rice
Fried eggs


Directions

  1. Chop your bomdong or lettuce into bite sized pieces. Then season with 2-3 spoons gochugaru, 2 spoons soy sauce, 2 spoons fish sauce, 2 spoons sesame oil, 1-2 spoons rice wine vinegar, 1-2 spoons maesil, and 1 minced garlic clove. Mix it all together then taste and adjust seasonings to your preference.

  2. Add a handful or so of your leaves onto cooked rice along with fried eggs. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top with a spoonful of gochujang.

  3. Mix then enjoy!
