Cowboy Stew
I had a cowgirl cookie at a restaurant that I really liked which led me to dive into why it was named so. Then I discovered cowboy cookies which then led me to discover cowboy stew. I was so curious on how it would taste so I decided to make it! Cowboy stew is a hearty soup packed with meats and flavor. It consists of a lot of canned goods so it’s perfect to make anytime. It’s like a chili that’s been super beefed up.
Lasagna
Layers of springy pasta between a meaty ragu and a cheesy silky béchamel sauce, what more can you ask for? Something about lasagnas are just so comforting and delicious! I like to add leeks into my béchamel sauce since it lightens the sauce by adding a nice touch of sweetness. I’m not so experienced with making fresh pasta, but it adds such a nice texture and depth to the lasagna.
Siraegi Doenjang Guk (시래기국)
This is one of my favorite soups. It is made mainly of siraegi which is radish leaves. As a kid, I would always remember the name of this soup by thinking of trash. This is because trash in korean is sseulegi, which sounds so similar to siraegil. So that’s why whenever I mention this soup to my friends, they always first think of trash/garbage. However, this soup is far from trash! It’s delicious! :D
Bolognese Sauce
I was craving some spaghetti bolognese and so I decided to make some! Here’s how I make this delicious time consuming sauce! :)
Hiyashi Chuka
As a kid, one of my most favorite dishes to eat during the summer was (and still is!) hiyashi chuka. This is a Japanese cold ramen dish with Chinese influence; it also directly translates as “chilled Chinese!” It features cold ramen noodles covered with an array of different toppings such as cucumber, egg, ham, and tomato. It’s then drizzled with either a soy sauce-based dressing or a sesame dressing, which I prefer more. This dish is so refreshing and I would definitely recommend you to try it!
Onion Galette
I remember seeing this onion galette way back in 2020 on Bon Appetit’s website and immediately making it. It was so good. One of my favorite and easiest things to make are galettes. And I love having this savory version in my repertoire. It’s a bit more work that regular simple galettes but I find that it is so worth it!
Lentil Soup
My family’s been sick with the cold lately so I wanted to make a hearty but healthy soup and so I decided on making some lentil soup! I like to pack my soup with as many vegetables as I can. I also love lentils and how they’re a great source of fiber and plant protein!
Okonomiyaki
Have you heard of okonomiyaki? Its a japanese savory pancake dish consisting mainly of cabbage and batter. Its a highly customizable dish where you can add toppings and things from your fridge. In fact okonomi means as you like and yaki means grilled. So you can grill what you like.
Salt Bread
소금빵 (sogeum-ppang) has been super popular in Korea. It’s a salt butter roll that is super simple but beautifully highlights the plain flavors of butter and salt. I had some on my trip to Korea last year and loved them! They’re based on 塩パン (shio-pan) from Japan and are so good fresh. That’s why I wanted to try making them on my own and I’m so glad I did! :D
Spicy Dried Squid (오징어채 무침)
Ojingeochae muchim (오징어채 무침) is a Korean side dish consisting of shredded dried squid which is covered in a delicious spicy and sweet gochujang seasoning. This was one of my favorite side dishes as a kid, and it still remains one of my favorites today!
